Updates from the box….
CrossFit Huntington’s 3rd Annual Civil War! – Ok gang! Tomorrow is the big day we have all been waiting for (at least for the past 2 weeks). A Civil War is coming to CFH and man do we have a battle. Competition begins at 9am sharp and will hopefully conclude around 2pm. We will have a family picnic immediately following. 6 teams have been put together, names are set, team colors and t-shirts are ordered and the strategizing has begun. Who will come out ahead in the end and have all of the bragging rights for the next year?? This will be determined by the end of day tomorrow. Remember even if you are not participating, we need you there to cheer us on…and help us eat the food afterwards. Will it be “WOD Smack”? The team that left us all some energy “treats” to enjoy (ps...Don’t eat them they are dog treats). Or will it be the blue team “Bending bars and breaking PR’s”. They certainly are trying to get into our heads. The green team “Beauties and the Beasts” have kept to themselves on the trash talk. I think they may be saving up all of their energy for the big day. Team “WOD Crushers” stepped up their game early on and regardless of Chuck’s hernia they HAVE to be top contenders, I mean after all they do have TA on their team! Team “Jacked in the Box” has also been a bit silent. Keep in mind, silence CAN be deadly! And finally team “Untamed Hulks”. What a name and their color is green. Let’s just hope Brian doesn’t break out those neon shoes or we will all be blinded. Hum mm…now that I think about it maybe that IS their strategy! Best of luck to all of the teams tomorrow, regardless of the outcome you are all winners in our eyes!
Picnic after Civil War- please remember to sign up to bring in something for our picnic after Civil War. Jeff and I will be providing the hotdogs and hamburgers and Troy and Brian are fixing the pork. Any contributions to the extras will be greatly appreciated. We still need buns, side dishes and desserts.
Colors for a Cure- It’s not too late to sign up!! This year Cabell Huntington Hospital and St. Mary’s Medical Center have combined their 5k races into one. The event is “Colors for a Cure” and will take place next Sunday Oct. 9 at Pullman Square in Huntington. For the past 3 years CrossFit Huntington has put together a team to participate and show our support. Please let me know ASAP if you want to arrive early and set up a tailgate as we have done in years past. This year it is on a 1st come 1st served basis and set up time is between 11a-12. In previous years we have had around 50 participants on our team. Team members can include family and friends who are not members of CFH as well. If you ordered a T-shirt they should be in this upcoming week. I will post something on Tiger Blood when they arrive. The link to register is https://pathtothecure.org/
Our next Foundations group starts Monday October 10th at 7pm -Please remember to tell your friends and family about CFH. Our best referrals come from each of you. Don’t forget, each time you refer someone new and they sign up for a permanent membership, we reduce your next draft by $25.00.
T-shirts and Tanks- We still currently have plenty of sizes. Cost for all T’s and tanks is $25.00. See a coach to purchase one today.
Marshall Marathon- The annual Marshall University Marathon will be held this year on Sunday November 6th. We are currently around 6 weeks out until the race. It is not too late to join us now. We perform interval training on Monday and Thursday during run club times and an additional optional run on Saturday morning or Sunday afternoons. If you are unable to attend run club during these times, I just ask that you make up each session you miss on your own each week. It will be important that you follow this schedule if you want to stay on track and be ready for this ½ Marathon event. I encourage each of you, whether you have completed a half Marathon event or not, to give this a shot. I would love to see a big team from CFH participate and show our support for The Herd and for our city. The link to register is http://marshalluniversitymarathon.com/registrationpacket-pickup/register/. Cost is $80.00.
And finally…. “I am in competition with no one. I have no desire to play the game of being better than anyone. I am simply trying to be better than the person I was yesterday.”
